Seek consistency Evaluate a mutual fund`s performance beyond just the recent year. Any fund can get lucky, but it`s the rare firm that prove themselves year after year. Examining a fund`s long term performance can answer the question of consistency. If the performance was good, was it repeatable due to skill - or merely a spike due to dumb luck?
The five costs of mutual fund investing are: 1. Tax Costs - excessive capital gains from active trading. 2. Transaction Costs - the cost of trades themselves. 3. Opportunity Costs - dollars taken out of portfolios for a fund`s safekeeping. 4. Sales Charges - both seen and hidden. 5. Expense Ration ("management fees") - no end to increases in site.
This essay is to enlighten investors on what they are getting into if they are relying on mutual funds as a way to provide for their financial freedom at the time of retirement. Can You Beat The Market Of course matching the market is not the most appealing concept to many of us. While we do not want to seem greedy, it sure would be nice to exceed the expected returns. Is there some amount of analysis that would allow us to blaze past the averages?
This formula shows the value of the shares in that fund. The second column will be offer price, which is what an investor would pay that day to buy more shares. If a fund is no-load, you will see an NL in that column, meaning you would just pay what the NAV is. The last column is the change column. A plus sign here will indicate that the funds value has gone up since the previous day, and a minus sign means that it has declined.
